About

Dr. Myo is passionate about empowering the youth, teaching, and working on research that leads to impact. Currently serving as an assistant professor of Computer Science at University of Illinois, Chicago, she has previously contributed her expertise to the Bard College at Simon’s Rock (USA), and Chiang Mai University (Thailand). Additionally, she co-founded a data analysis service company and was a freelance consultant on educational reform projects. In her earlier career, she worked as a research engineer & scientist at A*STAR, Singapore.

Originally from Myanmar, Myo pursued her education in Singapore and London, earning a scholarship to complete her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at NTU, Singapore, and later completing a PhD in Computer Vision at Kingston University, UK.

Her early career achievements include the IES Prestigious Engineering Achievement Award (2008) and the IWA Applied Research Honour Award (2012) for contributions as part of a research team. Later, she was honored as an ASEAN-US Science and Technology Fellow (2019), received the ASEAN Science Diplomat Award (2021), was named to the Kindness and Leadership APAC 2023 list for her leadership in promoting STEM education and empowering women, advising Women in AI (Myanmar – Chapter) and was a finalist for the British Council’s Study UK Alumni Award in the Science and Sustainability category (2024).

She is currently based in the USA and enjoys literature, cycling, and exploring new destinations.
